Many misconceptions about the influenza virus and influenza vaccine persist, despite widespread impact of the disease and benefits of the vaccine.
Local influenza providers are gearing up for vaccination clinics now. Predicting when flu season will start is difficult and varies from year to year, but typically influenza circulates in our area by December. Seasonal influenza vaccination is the most important way of preventing seasonal influenza virus infections and potentially severe complications, including death. Seasonal influenza vaccination reduces the likelihood of becoming ill with influenza or transmitting influenza to others.
