Effective Friday, May 24th, all ATV/UTV trails and routes in Bayfield County are now open with the exception of one section of trail in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest near Valhalla. You can still get to the Pub 'n Grub, but you need to use the western trail access from the south due to a flooded area (see detailed USFS report below). ATV/UTV MAP
USE CAUTION! Watch for hazards: high water, washouts, downed trees, etc. With the recent rain, our work crews haven't been able to repair all damage and remove downed trees and other hazards. If you come across any hazards (washouts, downed trees, etc.) please call the Bayfield County Tourism office at 715-373-6125 (7am-4pm, M-F) or Scott Williams (anytime) at 715-292-0858. Please be specific about type of hazard and location.
Report from the Forest Service 4/24/2013 (4:27 PM):
The ATV trails on the Washburn Ranger District have been assessed. All of the ATV trails, with the exception of the eastern portion of the Valhalla Trail (Trail 13/33- see the Bayfield County ATV Map) southeast of the chalet heading south to the junction of Iron River Trail (Trail 31) and the western portion of the Valhalla Trail (Trail 31/35). The Forest Service will be placing barriers with signs at crossings and the key intersections of the eastern portion of Valhalla Trail. The trail is currently flooded and washed out to the point that travel on it is not safe and would cause further damage to the surrounding resources. The trail soils are still very wet and grading will not be able to be done until conditions are more favorable. PLEASE USE CAUTION AND CARE WHILE RIDING!!! There are some small washes, bumps, puddles, and some trees/branches may still come down with stronger winds over the weekend. Please slow down your speed, watch for hazards, and stay on the trail.
Enjoy the incredible scenery in Bayfield County, "Home of Wisconsin's National Treasures." Our trails are maintained by dedicated volunteers from area clubs and the U.S. Forest Service. All designated ATV TRAILS and ROAD ROUTES in Bayfield County are also open to registered UTVs. Trails and roads under National Forest jurisdiction are open to UTVs 50 inches wide or less. For more information on UTVs, visit www.wiutv.org.
