Prescription Drug Drop

The Bayfield County Sheriff's Office is a Collection Site for un-wanted medications.  Monday - Friday 8 AM to 4 PM.

Why Should I Care?

  • Environmental Concerns.  Wastewater treatment plants and septic systems are not designed to remove all medications from wastewater.  Drugs can end up directly in our drinking water.  Medications found in waterways can lead to reproductive and developmental problems for fish and other aquatic wildlife.
  • Accidental Childhood Poisoning.  Medications often look like candy and children can be curious.  Throwing in trash gives easy access for children and pets
  • Substance Abuse.  Prescription and over the counter medications are being used by persons to get high.  Some have a perception these medications are a "safer" way to get high.

What can I turn in?

  • Prescription medications (pills, sprays, ointments, liquid, patches, etc)
  • Over the counter medications
  • Pet medications

What is not taken?

  • Inhalers
  • Mercury
  • Biohazardous materials
  • Sharps / Needles
  • Personal care products (shampoo, toothpaste, etc.)
  • Household hazardous waste (paint, motor oil)
