ATV, Boat, and Snowmobile

The Bayfield County Sheriff's Office, local Law Enforcement Officers, Wisconsin DNR, and Federal Agencies enforce laws involving recreational vehicles. Safety and education is the goal.

  • Stay on designated trails open to your sport. Not all snowmobile trails are open to ATV's; they cross private property and Federal Forest. Bayfield County also has many non-motorized trails. Please respect private property.
  • Don't drink and drive.
  • Wear a helmet.
  • Slow down. Speed Kills.
  • Take a safety course.
  • Be familiar with the laws. ATV, Boat, and Snowmobile Regulations are available at the Wisconsin DNR Website
  • Bayfield County Trail Ordinance.

DNR Safety Courses are often times REQUIRED for operation of boats, snowmobiles, and ATV's in Wisconsin.

  • ATV: Anyone born after December 31, 1987
  • Snowmobile: Anyone born after December 31, 1984
  • Boat: Anyone born after December 31, 1988
