Register of Deeds

What We Do

The Register of Deeds handles the filing of many documents. Some of the most common are:

  • Deeds
  • Federal Tax Liens
  • Mortgages and Satisfactions
  • Articles of Incorporation
  • Plats and Certified Survey Maps
  • Financing Statements

We also file Vital Statistics Records such as birth and death certificates, marriage licenses and Veteran's discharges.

The Bayfield County Register of Deeds office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

First page: $11 Birth certificate: $20 / $3 per additional copy
Additional pages: $2 each Death Certificate: $20 / $3 per additional copy
WI Transfer fee: $3 per $1,000 Marriage Record: $20 / $3 per additional copy

There is no fee for veterans' records. All fees are subject to change without notice.

A Note to Genealogists

Bayfield County Vital Statistic records date back as far as the late 1870's for births, late 1800's for deaths and the mid-1800's for marriages.

Census, naturalization, and other records can be found at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center in Ashland, Wisconsin. Their archival records represent collections from nine counties in northern Wisconsin.
