Bayfield County Zoning Committee Purpose and Procedures

Purpose of Committee

The responsibility of the Planning and Zoning Board is to administer and interpret ordinances and supervises the Planning and Zoning Department. This Committee hears and decides:

  • Conditional use permits
    • (Title 13, Chapter 1, Article C-Section 13-1-41)
  • Petitions to amend County/zoning ordinances
    • (Title 13, Chapter 1, Article F-Section 13-1-104)
  • Petitions to amend zoning district maps
    • (Title 13, Chapter 1, Article F-Section 13-1-105)
  • Special use (Class B) applications
    • (Title 13, Chapter 1, Article C-Section 13-1-41A)
  • Plats and/or subdivision
    • (Title 13, Chapter 1, Article C-Section 13-1-41)
  • Citizens' concerns and input

Meeting Dates

3rd Thursday of Every Month (October – March @ 1:00 pm and April – September @ 4:00 pm; subject to change). Please note: The deadline to be heard by the Planning and Zoning Committee is four weeks prior to the meeting date.

Appeal Process

(Title 13, Chapter 1, Article F, Section 13-1-102)

  • Any person aggrieved by a decision of the Planning and Zoning Director and/or Planning and Zoning Committee, may request and shall be granted a public hearing before the Board of Adjustment.
  • The appeal notice shall be filed with the Planning and Zoning Director within thirty (30) days after written notice of the order or decision appealed from was sent by first class mail to the aggrieved party, or, if such notice was not sent to the aggrieved party, within thirty (30) days after the party first knew of, had reason to know of, or should have known of, the order or decision.
  • The appeal notice shall specify the grounds for the appeal.
  • The Zoning Administrator shall transmit to the Board of Adjustment all the papers constituting the record upon which the action appealed from was taken.
