  9. Rise Up Singing..... Songs of justice, hope, and peace

    July 28, 2017, 7:30 PM @ Big Top Chautauqua

The same team that brought you "Belfast to Bluegrass" and "Shipwrecks and Shanties" has turned their eyes and ears to the cries for peace over the last 150 years. This new performance will gather the songs of freedom, hope and peace from across the ages, and around the world. From the civil war to Syria, hear some of the most inspirational and uplifting songs that grew from the ashes of war. Mark Twain once said "only dead men can tell the truth in this world" after writing "The War Prayer" and making sure it wouldn't be published until after his death. While the show bumps up against the reality of conflict, it is an uplifting show spotlighting the collective triumph of the people, and the songs that inspired them in their quests for justice and ultimately peace.
