    June 24, 2017, 7:30 PM @ Big Top Chautauqua

Formed in 1970 in Paw Paw, West Virginia and now based in Austin, Texas, Asleep at the Wheel has been the most instrumental force in keeping Western swing music alive. In their career, they have released more than twenty studio albums, charted more than twenty singles on the Billboard country charts, and earned nine Grammy Awards. The band continues to introduce Western swing to new generations on tour and take audiences on the ride of a lifetime with their freewheeling, classic sound. Described by Reuter's as "one of the best live acts in the business," Asleep at the Wheel will be making their third appearance on the Big Top stage, this time joined by Texas musical icon Dale Watson. Watson is a country singer, guitarist, and songwriter based in Austin. He champions "Ameripolitan" as a new genre of original music and has positioned himself as a tattooed, stubbornly independent and slightly irreverent outsider who is interested in authentic country music.

  8. Rise Up Singing, songs of justice, hope, and peace

    June 25, 2017, 7:30 PM @ Big Top Chautauqua

The same team that brought you "Belfast to Bluegrass" and "Shipwrecks and Shanties" has turned their eyes and ears to the cries for peace over the last 150 years. This new performance will gather the songs of freedom, hope and peace from across the ages, and around the world. From the civil war to Syria, hear some of the most inspirational and uplifting songs that grew from the ashes of war. Mark Twain once said "only dead men can tell the truth in this world" after writing "The War Prayer" and making sure it wouldn't be published until after his death. While the show bumps up against the reality of conflict, it is an uplifting show spotlighting the collective triumph of the people, and the songs that inspired them in their quests for justice and ultimately peace.

  12. Leftover Salmon W/The Secret Sisters

    June 30, 2017, 7:30 PM @ Big Top Chautauqua

Looking back over the past 25 years of rootsy, string-based music, the impact of Leftover Salmon is impossible to deny. Formed in Boulder at the end of 1989, the Colorado slamgrass pioneers took their form of aggressive bluegrass to rock and roll bars at a time when it wasn’t so common, helping Salmon become a pillar of the jam band scene and unwitting architects of the jamgrass genre. Today, Leftover Salmon is: Vince Herman, Drew Emmitt, Andy Thorn, Greg Garrison, Alwyn Robinson and Erik Deutsch. The Secret Sisters, an Americana singing and songwriting duo consisting of vocalists Laura and Lydia Rogers, are awaiting the June release of their latest CD, You Don’t Own Me Anymore, produced by Brandi Carlile.
