  3. Celebrate Birch! Celebrating the Art and Science of the Birch tree

    All month long, the Cultural Center will celebrate the birch tree with a number of unique activities exploring the art and science of birch. All activities are FREE and take place at the Washburn Cultural Center, except for the field trip on June 21.     Adult Classes are approximately 2 + hours in length. Long pants (No SHORTS will be allowed) Closed-tipped shoes (i.e. tennis shoes) Wear a Hat or headband Long-sleeved cotton shirt Optional– no billowy sleeves Wear sunglasses Kids Classes: Quick ssession: Ages 5-12 Kids get to experience the hot glass, use of tools and equipment and make something of their choice.   5. Bayfield's Concerts by the Lake

    Bayfield’s Concerts by the Lake take place every Tuesday, from June 18 through September 3, 2019 in Memorial Park. Music begins at 7pm. In case of rain, the concert will be held at the Madeline Island Ferry Line terminal building, at the base of Washington Ave. The concerts are free and open to the public. Guests may wish to bring blankets or lawn chairs to the park.

    Speaker: Dr. Alan Brew, Executive Director, Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute & Professor of English For many, the northern regions of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Ontario are defined by water: creeks, rivers and lakes. Professor Brew will introduce a number of authors who have written about the Lake Superior watershed and share some favorite passages from their essays, stories and poems, encouraging participants to begin their own journey of literary exploration on the waters of Lake Superior.

    This race is part of the Wisconsin Adventure Racing Series, Wisconsin’s premier race series featuring ten different adventure races and cash prizes totaling over $2,000.
