April 12, 2017 - April 16, 2017 @ Just outside Washburn, WI.
With master carver, Jay Haavik The 1904 excavation in Norway of the Oseberg Viking ship revealed a vast array of woodcarvings, unlike anything seen previously. Dragon like headposts, elaborately carved sleighs, an exquisite wagon, and of course, the carvings on the ship itself revealed to us the extent of the imagination and skill for the woodcarvers in the 9th century region of Vestfold, Norway. This five day workshop will be an opportunity of beginning as well as experienced carvers to experience the pleasure of making carvings inspired by the Viking age. Tuition: $400 plus some materials and tools you will need to purchase.

April 15, 2017, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM @ Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center
Earn your Great Lakes Junior Ranger badge, and celebrate Junior Ranger Day with a fun morning of activities at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center! Cable Natural History Museum will kick off the day at 10am with their program “The Smallest Falcon,” and their American kestrel, in the theater.
Then from 11am – 1pm, we’ll have activity stations around the Center: a lighthouse keeper in the tower, a kayaker in the exhibit hall to teach you about safely traveling on Lake Superior, and a make-and-take window-hanging craft to prevent birds from running into your windows at home. Once you visit the stations, you can be sworn in as a Great Lakes Junior Ranger by a Park Ranger from Apostle Islands National Lakeshore
