August 3, 2019, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
The Port Wing Saturday Market started 6 years ago with a handful of vendors.
It has grown into a fun shopping place to hang out on Saturday mornings from May to October. The focus of the Port Wing Saturday Market is fresh, locally grown produce, plants and flowers. Our local farmers grow a wide variety of your favorite veggies and fruits. They also sell maple syrup, jams, jellies, farm fresh eggs & meats.
Not only do we have fresh local produce, we offer local artists the opportunity to showcase their art: handmade books, stone and beaded jewelry, wood-carved and wood-turned spoons and other utensils, pottery, soaps and lotions, knitted hats & mittens, handwoven rag-rugs, bird paintings on wood and funny signs, just right for your cabin or guesthouse.
When you are on the South Shore of Lake Superior, don't forget to stop by and visit!

The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was an organization of Civil War Union veterans similar to today's American Legion or VFW. The GAR held to its decision not to extend the organization's life beyond the life expectancy of its members. The mission to carry on the GAR ideals was handed over to the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUV). The SUV's Last Soldier Project has identified 3 area veterans as the last Civil War soldiers to be buried in Ashland, Bayfield & Iron counties. The SUV has teamed up with Historical Societies from each county to find these veterans burial sites & get information on their lives.
On August 3 The SUV Old Abe Camp 8, from the Fox Valley, along with local veteran's groups will dedicate special GAR Last Soldier markers at these veteran's burial sites.
A dedication ceremony will be held at 1:00pm at Woodland Cemetery in Washburn for David Monroe. These ceremonies are done in accordance with direction right from the GAR ceremonies manual.
