  2. Annual Apostle Islands Lighthouse Celebration

    August 27, 2019 - September 14, 2019

    For well over a century lighthouses have guided mariners through the waters of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands. Today, these historic island beacons are a traveler's treasure and a rich part of Wisconsin's maritime history. Our Celebration presents island cruise opportunities that dock at Raspberry, Michigan, Sand, Devils and Outer Island and offer guided tours of these lighthouses. Other cruises include the new Chequamegon Bay Lighthouses Cruise, and the popular Ultimate Lighthouse Cruise; a non-stop voyage to see five of the eight lighthouses from the comfort of your cruise boat. Cruise Lake Superior's Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and learn about the Keepers and their families that lived and worked in this secluded setting among the Apostle Islands on the greatest of the Great Lakes, Lake Superior.

  3. Classic Boats & Schooners Rendezvous

    FRIDAY We invite local students to the docks and museums to learn about our maritime history. We are sponsoring Shanties and Shipwrecks at the Big Top Chautauqua. There is a Meet and Greet for all participating boats, organizations and sponsors Friday evening. SATURDAY Activities include viewing vessels and demonstrations at various locations around Bayfield including the City Dock, the Maritime Museum and the Fishing Docks. The Bayfield Coast Guard Station will demonstrate life-saving skills. There will be guest speakers and nautical demonstrations in the Pavilion, at the City Dock and Museums. The highlight of the event will be the boat parade at 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon. And don’t forget our Pirates Ball Fundraiser on Saturday evening! SUNDAY Activities include a Mariners’ Worship Service. Visitors will enjoy watching the vessels set sail for home.

    The Port Wing Saturday Market started 6 years ago with a handful of vendors. It has grown into a fun shopping place to hang out on Saturday mornings from May to October. The focus of the Port Wing Saturday Market is fresh, locally grown produce, plants and flowers. Our local farmers grow a wide variety of your favorite veggies and fruits. They also sell maple syrup, jams, jellies, farm fresh eggs & meats. Not only do we have fresh local produce, we offer local artists the opportunity to showcase their art: handmade books, stone and beaded jewelry, wood-carved and wood-turned spoons and other utensils, pottery, soaps and lotions, knitted hats & mittens, handwoven rag-rugs, bird paintings on wood and funny signs, just right for your cabin or guesthouse. When you are on the South Shore of Lake Superior, don't forget to stop by and visit!

  7. Old Last Night Featuring the Blue Canvas Orchestra John McEuen and the String Wizards and host Michael Perry at Big Top Chautauqua

    Celebrate the end of the 2019 show season with a trinity of special talent: the Blue Canvas Orchestra, John McEuen, and Michael Perry. Michael Perry is Big Top's favorite author, comedian, musician, and intermittent pig farmer - and host of our very own Tent Show Radio. He will host the night, with the Blue Canvas Orchestra stepping up to play some of their favorite tunes of the season and beyond. John McEuen presents music and memories of his career with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and the Will the Circle Be Unbroken record. The Library of Congress inducted the multi-platinum 'Circle' as one of "…the most important American recordings." It's also in the Grammy Hall of Fame. The evening features NGDB favorites and music from McEuen's new record Made in Brooklyn.
