  2. Beavers in the Western Great Lakes

    February 13, 2020, 7:00 PM - 9:15 PM @ Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center

Beavers in the Western Great Lakes (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ontario) had a huge influence on the development and biodiversity of this region. Prior to exploitation, which began in the 1600’s, the riverine systems and hydrology of the landscape were very different and much richer in biodiversity than today. With their dams and resulting wetlands, beavers provide structural stability that benefit streams. By buffering streams during high water events, these dams offer potential economic benefits via mitigation of flood events resulting from climate change in this region. Join us as Bob Boucher, member of the Beaver Institute National Advisory Board, gives an overview of the history and the current management policies regarding beavers in our region. Doors open at 6:15 pm to view displays. Presentation begins at 7 pm. Free and open to the public. More Info:
